Meet the team: William, Lead Design Engineer at AMZCO Construction

In this series of articles, we’ll introduce you to a handful of key members of the AMZCO Construction team, showcasing their knowledge and expertise in the field.

William, Lead Design Engineer at AMZCO Construction

William has an undergraduate degree in Architecture where he studied building design, engineering and 3D modelling systems for a total of 4 years. During this time, Will also undertook work experience in a small Architecture firm in Bristol to build up his CAD skills.

After Will completed his undergraduate degree, he moved to Oxford to complete a Masters degree in Building Surveying which will run its course in September 2024.

Will has been working at AZMCO Construction since 2022 –  running project design phases in the UK and abroad where he has consistently delivered detailed designs for AD biogas facilities.

As a combined effort, Will has also engaged his university to complete a dissertation piece of academic research into the rapidly emerging sector of Small Scale Anaerobic Digestion.

A typical day for our Lead Design Engineer

My typical work day kicks off at 7am with an email catch-up and call with my colleague Josh to set out our day of work ahead.

We both work on the same projects which have changing priorities, and therefore require constant communication to ensure we are working on the correct things at the correct time.

Once we have set out our day of work, we use Trello to list these tasks, keep track of them, and work through them. This role requires a flexible and adaptable approach to working; most of the time we don’t quite finish our daily list of tasks as new and challenging priority items come to head from phone calls or emails throughout the day. However, we will always set a firm deadline for each task and nothing ever gets forgotten or delayed.

In the afternoon, around 4pm, I start to wind down my work. Any new requests coming in get put in the diary for the next day as I prioritise finishing off what I am working on for this day.

After completing the last task, I do a thorough saving operation, alongside a final email run-through.

Finally, a CDE check and upload is done for all ongoing projects to ensure all is operating and then I clock off around 6-7pm.

The most rewarding part of the job is…

The most rewarding part of any design work is seeing something come to life – moving a design from a conversation to a working reality is always exciting!

The most challenging part of the job is…

The most challenging part of my job is the moving priority tasks which constantly change what you are working on. This can be challenging as we work in multiple different design softwares from Adobe, Autodesk and Microsoft.

This, however, doesn’t deter us from delivering a high quality, unbeatable service to our clients.
